Bridgestone to Cease Tire Supply to the
FIA Formula One World Championship
Bridgestone has announced that it will not enter into a new

(F1) series; the current contract is set to expire at the
end of the 2010 season. In addressing the impact of the continuing

to supporting F1 and the series' teams through the completion
of the 2010 season. The company also expressed its sincere
appreciation and gratitude to the management of Formula One,
the F1 teams and support staff, and the F1 fans around the
world for their enthusiasm and support for Bridgestone over
the last 13 years.
Cooper Tire Backs Toyota Dakar Rally Squad
Cooper
Tire Europe will compete in next year's Dakar Rally after
sealing an agreement with Dakar veteran, Spaniard Xavier Foj.
Foj and co-driver, Argentine Pablo Jaton, will compete in
a Toyota Land Cruiser KXR, built by Jaton's brother, in the
Toyota Cooper Tire team, using Cooper's rugged Discoverer
STT rubber for the famously arduous 9000km event.
It will be the second year that Foj has used Cooper's STT,
renowned for its outstanding off-road traction and durability,
for the Dakar. Last year, he finished second in the T2 class
for production vehicles, with no punctures or tyre problems.
The Toyota Cooper Tires team will fit 255/75R15 and 245/75R15
STTs to the KXR for the event, in which competitors tackle
soft sandy dunes as well as tough, rocky terrain. The event,
held between January 1-17, 2010, will be the second running
of the Dakar in South America and the route, which takes competitors
across the Atacama Desert, is believed to be one of the toughest
in history.

National and Revive! Partnership Moves
to Next Stage
Following
a successful pilot carried out at a small number of branches,
offering customers a SMART repair service provided by Revive!,
National Tyres and Autocare has extended the trial to 35 more
branches in the North West. Small to Medium Area Repair Techniques
(SMART) are ideal for repairing bumper scuffs and damage to
alloy wheels, making the service a perfect 'while-you-wait'
add on for National Tyre's customers.
"Revive! impressed us with their professional approach and
their product offering compliments our core business," said
Mike Garwood, Project Manager of National Tyres and Autocare.
"Their image is very professional, aligning well with our
brand values, and their workmanship and commitment to customer
service is outstanding."
"The service is proving very popular with customers. Previous
experience with the high cost of bodyshop repairs has led
many customers to shy away from repairing minor scuff's, dents
and scratches. However the fast, convenient, low cost service
that Revive! offer has been a real revelation.
" Mike added; "It's easy for our technicians to inspect vehicles
for scuffs and scratches whilst doing a tyre check and customers
are delighted to learn that these can be repaired quickly
and professionally while they wait. The addition of a Lifetime
Ownership Guarantee is both unique in the industry and a real
winner with our customers".
Revive! leads the way in the cosmetic paint industry and
is part of the working party currently setting the training
standards for SMART repairers. Its customers include Alfa
Romeo, Mercedes, Fiat and Lex Autolease.
TyreSafe Receives Prince Michael International
Road Safety Award
TyreSafe, the UK's leading tyre safety organisation, has
been awarded a prestigious Prince Michael International Road
Safety Award in recognition of its achievements in raising
awareness about the dangers associated with driving on defective
and worn tyres.
TyreSafe is now in its third year and since its inception
has helped reduce the number of deaths on the UK's roads from
tyre related accidents, as reported by the Department for
Transport, from 44 in 2006, to 34 in 2008. The number of reported
casualties from accidents where illegal, defective or under-inflated
tyres were a contributory factor has also reduced significantly
from 1580 in 2006 to 894 in 2008.
"It's a fantastic honour to have been awarded this distinguished
accolade," said Stuart Jackson, chairman, TyreSafe. "Despite
being just three years old, the activities of TyreSafe really
demonstrate what can be achieved when an industry rallies
together. We continue to spread our messages about tyre safety
to a wider audience in an increasingly engaging manner and
we hope these efforts will result in an even greater reduction
of tyre related accidents."
TyreSafe campaigns in line with current legislation and duty
of care regulations. It targets those within the tyre industry
such as manufacturers and retailers as well as many outside
including drivers, vehicle manufacturers, fleet operators,
insurers, enforcement agencies and other groups.
During 2009 it has run a number of successful campaigns
including bike tyre safety month in April, and October's tyre
safety month which encouraged car drivers to check their tread
depth. Since 1987, the Prince Michael International Road Safety
Awards have been presented to individuals, companies or organisations
in recognition of their outstanding contribution to improving
road safety. TyreSafe received their award within the Road
Users category which recognises education and enforcement
programmes that change the behaviour of road users for improved
safety. The other categories covered by the awards are for
roads and vehicles.
"The judges were very impressed by TyreSafe's example of
an industry-led organisation which has delivered some very
successful campaigns, raising awareness of an important road
safety issue," comments Adrian Walsh, director, RoadSafe,
- organisers of the awards. The Judges considered over 80
nominations TyreSafe was one of just 15 bodies who were successfully
selected against a set a stringent criteria, to receive the
award.
TyreSafe chairman Stuart Jackson received the award from
David Jamieson, former Parliamentary Under-Secretary, Department
for Transport, at a luncheon on 20th November. The organisation
will be further represented at the Annual Awards Luncheon
Ceremony, hosted by His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent,
on 8th December, where the highlight of the ceremony will
be the announcement and presentation of the 2009 Premier Award.
