New Michelin X Energy Savergreen
New Michelin X Energy Savergreen
Michelin
has launched its all new Michelin X Energy Savergreen tyre
which is designed to offer road transport companies unrivalled
performance and economy, saving 500 litres of fuel per truck
per year while continuing to deliver superior tread life.
The Michelin X Energy Savergreen also reduces greenhouse
gas emissions by nearly 2.5 tonnes over the tyre's life, and
improves safety thanks to a seven per cent increase in grip
in comparison with the previous generation Michelin XDA2+
Energy tyres.
Built using Michelin's new Energy Flex heat-stable casing,
the X Energy Savergreen is the latest truck tyre to join the
Michelin Durable Technologies family, which comprise a package
of breakthrough truck tyre innovations, with the Energy Flex
technology capable of driving a measurable reduction in fuel
consumption throughout the life of the tyre.
The Michelin X Energy Savergreen also incorporates other
innovative Michelin Durable Technologies, such as the InfiniCoil
architecture, which helps to deliver improved endurance together
with a 500 kg increase in steering axle payload, and double
wave sipes, which further enhance grip. In this way, the Michelin
X Energy Savergreen delivers superior performance in three
critical areas, which would be impossible to offer in the
same tyre using standard tyre manufacturing technologies.
T
he new tyre is available immediately in Germany, France,
Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain in the 315/70R22.5 dimension,
with the tyres expected to be widely available in the UK and
other European countries in early 2009. The current range
includes both the X Energy Savergreen XF for steer axles and
an XD for drive axles.
Both tyres offer the same fuel-efficient benefits throughout
each stage of the unique Michelin Four Lives tyre package
(new, regroove, Michelin Remix and regroove of the Remix tyre).
The Michelin X Energy Savergreen tyre was first unveiled
earlier this year in an exclusive world premiere launch on
the new model of the Renault Magnum, after Renault independent
trials calculated that the new Michelin tyre saves 0.5 litres
of fuel per 100 kilometres compared with its predecessor,
which was already well known for its fuel economy.
Volvo has also approved the Michelin X Energy Savergreen
on its latest generation trucks, whilst other leading original
equipment manufacturers are in the process of finalising the
tyre's approval for their latest model ranges.
The launch of Michelin's new low rolling resistance tyre
for long distance trunking operations comes during a period
when oil prices have hit record highs, with the average haulier
spending nearly a third of their operating budget on fuel
(versus 16 per cent in 1999), making it their second largest
expense.
